New Jersey Wedding

Italian and Irish wedding – a true New York classic. Bride’s house in Staten Island was packed with relatives, friends, and neighbors, all characters in their own right, feasting on heaps of delicious food, not minding 3-men Lux crew buzzing around, snapping shots.

The ceremony at the Church of saint Joseph on Staten Island was a pleasant breeze, and afterwards the wedding party piled in the party bus that took them to the venue in NJ. The Estate at Florentine Gardens is located in New Jersey, over an hour away from the Church, but totally worth the drive – an enchanting venue engulfed in greens, with beautifully laid out gardens, spacious ballroom, and very professional staff.

The music was provided by multi-talented performers from “The Next Faze” – we fell in love with those guys since we met them while shooting a wedding at the Staten Island County Country Club.

One of the photographs taken by Lux was recently featured in a cute wedding announcement in Staten Island Live

Helmut Newton once said that his job as a portrait photographer is to seduce, amuse and entertain. Add to that creation of a visual story and capture of subtle moments in a very delicate and artistic approach, and you will understand how we approach every single event, be it a wedding, Bar-Mitzvah, Fiesta Quinceañera, engagement, or a studio portrait.

Paula & Patrick, Blending Traditions in Philadelphia

There was not one but two tea ceremonies at this lovely Philadelphia wedding, one from the bride’s side, honoring longstanding Vietnamese wedding traditions, and the other celebrating Korean cultural background of the groom. Though a little different in detail both ceremonies are essentially all about bridging the gap between the generations, a homage to the intricate rituals of the Far East, an opportunity for the closest members of the family to present their gifts to the bride and groom, and a formal way to “relax” during the big day.

korean vietnamese tea ceremony

Vietnamese wedding tea ceremony is a well-organized procession of the bridal party and family members, all carrying elaborately decorated lacquer boxes, covered in red cloth. Inside are gifts for the bride’s family which are typically betel, wine, tea, fruit, cakes, a roasted pig, and a personal gift for the bride. During the ceremony women typically wear the traditional ao dai.

Korean tea ceremony or Darye literally refers to “etiquette for tea” or “day tea rite” and has been kept among Korean people for a few thousand years. On the day of their wedding, after the church ceremony couples with their entourage typically retire to someone’s home and go through the motions of the tea ceremony, or as in this case have one at the reception hall. Each, the bride and the groom must present a cup of tea with both hands to each parent and relative, calling each person by their proper name The parents and relatives must receive the cup of tea with both hands as well. Then the elders each provide the couple with red packets filled with money.

Shelley & David, Australians in NY

When we first received an email from down-under we were worried that an open-air photo shoot in New York at the end of November would be risky to say the least – grey, overcast sky and chilly temperatures in the late fall in Manhattan are very problematic for good quality outdoors photography. We got lucky twice. First, even though the day turned out to be chilly and overcast, the sun made frequent appearances, lighting our clients Shelley and David just when we need it. Secondly, our clients were tough, and braved the chill with Herculean courage.

On the day of the shoot after we have met Shelley and David at their suite at the Waldorf-Astoria we headed straight to the NY City clerk’s office, where dozens of couples were awaiting their turn to be wed. After a brief ceremony in a pastel-colored room we cabbed to the Washington Square Park for a few key photographs, and then moved on to New York’s Central Park.

We spent some time trekking the park’s alleys and trails, climbed some boulders and made the bride and groom play with foliage, ending our fun photo session at the Bethesda fountain, just moments before sending Shelley & David to their celebratory dinner at the Boathouse Restaurant.

Long Island Jewish Wedding Video at Allegria Hotel

To our question whether Natasha liked her and Seth’s wedding video she promptly fired out: “I totally do!!! … I love the video. The songs for the short are perfect! I love, love, love it!!!:)It makes me fall in love all over. It has brought tears to everyones’ eyes.”

Receiving responses such as this one convinces us more and more that we are doing something right by our brides.

We love what we do, and this attitude influences and shapes our approach to wedding photography and cinematography. There is much more to shooting weddings and photographing engagements than capturing the key moments, or routinely shooting only “what sells”. A great wedding photographer should concentrate on creating visual stories, capturing moments, and most importantly making brides look and feel beautiful.

Lux Journal regulars probably remember that Natasha’s ravishing face and Seth’s loving eyes already have made a few appearances on the pages of this blog, initially after their New York engagement session http://luxphotostudios.com/2010/08/tash-seth-engagement-in-new-york/ and then after their Long Island wedding http://luxphotostudios.com/2010/08/natasha-seth-long-island-wedding/

Our brides welcome their fifteen minutes of fame, and when asked if she minded being featured on our blog, Natasha replied: “I like the idea of being the face of Lux!!:)That would be awesome…I’m going to have to schedule another wedding to stay on the blog! Lol!”
