This was one of the highlights of this summer – a couple from Mexico flew in to NYC and hired us to shoot their engagement photographs, only stipulation being that it was to be a complete surprise for the bride-to-be, meaning that for the first part of the shoot we were to remain unseen, while shooting from distance with our telephoto lenses.
The plan was simple: we were to spot the couple at the Wholefoods on Columbus Circle as they were grocery shopping for a picnic at the park. After we were to follow them, trying to stay out of sight, detective-like, and capture their day.
When he proposed, a real storm of emotions came out of her, all positive and wonderful and real, better than any romantic movie can recreate! Hidden behind a tree, we shot this scene frantically trying not to miss anything – the way her eyes swelled with tears of joy, the way she checked out her ring. A few minutes after the proposal we were introduced to the now-official fiancee, and the rest of the photo shoot went in more conventional manner.
We went around New York’s central park, just around 103rd St on the Upper West Side, where there is a small lake with ducks, a few very lovely scenic benches, perfectly trimmed lawns, some wild-looking trees and bushes, and even a waterfall next to an ancient looking stone overpass. The couple couldn’t have been happier at that moment and we are very lucky to have witnessed such a real and rare and pure bouquet of emotions.
